Jason Momoa has finally been cast in his "perfect" DC role: Lobo (Sorry, Aquaman)

10 years ago Jason Momoa was cast as Aquaman. Now he's being cast as Lobo. It makes sense.

Jason Momoa's 2018 film Aquaman is the highest-grossing DC movie of all time - beating its fellow DCEU movies, as well as outgrossing all of the Batman and Superman movies. But just because it is doesn't mean that DC thinks Momoa is typecast to be Aquaman forever.

10 years after being cast as Aquaman, Jason Momoa has been cast to play Lobo in DC Studios' 2026 Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie, next to the titular Milly Alcock, as reported by Deadline's Matt Grobar. The two actors share a bond, with them being best known for their roles in HBO's Game of Thrones saga before stepping into the DCU.

Momoa has been speculated to be recast as Lobo for years due to his looks and his intense interest in the character, as seen in interviews, convention panels, and on social media. Momoa has said that despite being cast as Aquaman years ago, Lobo "was always my favorite" - even saying at one time it was "the perfect role" for him.

This is part of a long-term relationship with Momoa and DC's parent company, Warner Bros, as he has been part of not only its DC movies and the Game of Thrones saga, but its Dune movies, its LEGO movies, two upcoming movies (A Minecraft Movie and Animal Friends), and was the lead in a recent Max docuseries called On The Roam.

While Lobo did not appear in the comic book series of which the DC Studios' Supergirl movie is based on, Supergirl and Lobo have had memorable interactions including the 2007 Brave & The Bold #3 by Mark Waid and George Pérez which you should look up and read right now.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow opens in theaters June 26, 2026, and is set to begin filming in early 2025.
