Star Wars’ John Boyega is in talks for some high-profile Hollywood action movies, but also wants to do his own films

John Boyega says he’s in talks for some action movies (hinting that they could be big franchise films).

John Boyega is not done making blockbuster films.

The Star Wars actor recently teased that he’s reading for some big action roles. “We’re reading for some right now. A whole bunch of action going on. I might be kicking ass again,” Boyega says.

When pressed on if it was a superhero role, Boyega remained coy. “All heroes don’t wear capes, you know,” Boyega teases.

“There has been a few times, especially over the last few months, where I have been summoned by the studio gods. That’s how they do it. They just call you out of nowhere," Boyega says during his Popverse-hosted spotlight panel at this past weekend's Emerald City Comic Con Main Stage powered by Xfinity. "You don’t even know how they get your number. And they’re just like, ‘[speaking in American accent] Well buddy, we want to offer you this role. I need you to meet me in Beverly Hills right now,’” Boyega says.

“I would love to do more sci-fi franchises and stuff, but what I’m working on now is my own production slate. And I’m working with some friends that you’ve seen me with before to bring you guys things and ideas that are going to be more original and fresh.”

While Boyega couldn’t be specific, he teased the tone that we might expect from his upcoming projects. “We’ve got historical drama, we’ve got horror, we’ve got sci-fi action, we’ve got a really good grounded superhero story. Not colorful like the rest of them, but if you think Glass. More grounded.”

The part that got my attention was when he mentioned working with friends that we’ve seen him with before. Hmm…any guesses on who those friends might be?
