Jurassic World's Bryce Dallas Howard wanted a major change for her character in the third film

Bryce Dallas Howard and director Colin Trevorrow had a different idea of how Jurassic World’s Claire would look for Jurassic World: Dominion

As you go through the Jurassic World movies, you might notice a few patterns. For one, there are a lot of dinosaurs eating people….but that one is obvious. A better example would be Claire Dearing’s introductions. You might notice that Bryce Dallas Howard’s character is introduced in Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom the same way – via elevator. However, the final film in the trilogy, Jurassic World Dominion, forgoes Claire’s usual elevator introduction.

There’s a reason for that, and it involves a haircut.

During a spotlight panel at Fan Expo Canada, Bryce Dallas Howard revealed the big change she wanted for Claire Dearing in Jurassic World Dominion. “I kept wanting to have an undercut. I know it’s not appropriate, it had everything to do with me, it had nothing to do with Claire Dearing. I was like, ‘Don’t you think she should have a badass undercut? Wouldn’t that be really cool? Like a shaved part of her head?’ And Colin [Trevorrow] was like, ‘I don’t know about that.’”

In the end, Claire didn’t get her undercut, but Trevorrow had a counteroffer. “The compromise was that, ‘Your introduction in the third movie is going to be in the darkness, and we see you take off a hood, and you emerge.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, cool. That’s great. I like that.’ It was definitely planned, and there were no elevators in sight.”

And that’s how Jurassic World Dominion became the only film in the series where Claire isn’t introduced in an elevator.
