Katy O'Brian wants to make a Jackie Chan-style meets Oldboy martial arts movie - without all the quick camera cuts prevelant these days
In our Popversations interview series, Katy O'Brian revealed at Emerald City Comic Con that she would love to put her martial arts training to good use

You may know and love Katy O'Brian from her roles in Love Lies Bleeding and Twisters, but did you know that she has more than 30 years of training as a martial artist? Yes, beyond being a badass former bodybuilder, Katy O'Brian is also a badass martial artist. But it's a skillset that the actress herself admits that she hasn't gotten the chance to fully showcase onscreen in a role yet.
In the latest episode of our Popversations interview series hosted by our video producer, Ashley Victoria Robinson, Katy O'Brian revealed that she would be down to do some nailbiting fight sequences in a movie sometime.
"I want something like Oldboy, where [a fight sequence is framed in a] wide shot, and you're just going through it. There might be some flaws... but that's what a real fight looks like. A single take is great, yeah. And I love Jackie Chan's style and I feel like [Everything Everywhere All At Once], they brought that back in a really cool way. But it's practiced, really rhythmic, and a beautiful fighting style. So I'd love to do anything like that."
You heard her, Hollywood: Katy O'Brian is ready to put in the work and time to learn complex fight choreography. Previously in the interview, O'Brian noted that so many action scenes in Hollywood movies are filmed in close-ups and feature quick edits to hide the fact that most actors aren't given the time to learn each step in a choreographed fight. And in doing so, there's a sense of visceral realism that's lost when the camera cuts away every second or two.
