Sony's Kraven the Hunter star Aaron Taylor-Johnson & director J.C. Chandor see the film as a prequel to a Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt movie for Marvel Studios
Kraven's Last Hunt would be the logical follow up to the first movie, but getting the rights to use Spider-Man in it would be a monumental task in itself.

A lot is riding on the success of Kraven the Hunter. Not only is the potential future of Sony’s Spider-Man (minus Spider-Man) Universe in the balance, but a successful box office could allow one of the Wallcrawler’s most celebrated storylines to finally appear on the big screen. According to Kraven the Hunter’s director, a Kraven’s Last Hunt film is the logical ending to the character’s cinematic journey.
J.C. Chandor, who directed the first Kraven the Hunter film, already has his eyes set on a potential sequel. Speaking to Collider, he said would want to adapt the classic Spider-Man storyline Kraven’s Last Hunt – but only if this movie is a success. “[Kraven the Hunter] is essentially this building of a villain. The final piece of that, for Aaron and for me, was in Kraven’s Last Hunt, which, if this thing works and is a success, that’s where we’d have this story end.”
Considering the storyline of Kraven’s Last Hunt, where the legendary hunter incapacitates and impersonates Spider-Man to prove he is better than the hero in every way, it makes sense that this would be the capstone to the villain’s journey. However, there is an obvious spanner in the works of this idea – Spider-Man himself. The hero has been off-limits for Sony’s movies since he jumped into the MCU in Captain America: Civil War and it doesn’t look like Marvel is looking to give him back anytime soon.
Could Sony make a Kraven’s Last Hunt movie without Spider-Man? We didn’t think they could make a Venom movie without him but they managed to make three, so we wouldn’t put it past them. However, this all depends on Sony’s latest outing at making Spider-Man movies without the hero being a success - something that early reviews paint as increasingly unlikely.
