When you have a character as prone to chaos and inconsistencies as Deadpool, some weird variants are inevitably going to show up. There have been plenty of versions of the Merc with a Mouth over the years and the multiversal Deadpool & Wolverine has already offered us hints of several of them, including Dogpool, but perhaps the most interesting is the brief flicker of Lady Deadpool we see in a trailer for the film.
Who is Lady Deadpool and what does her introduction mean for the MCU? Let’s take a look at what we know so far.
Who is Lady Deadpool?
Wanda Wilson hails from Earth-3010 where she lived a significantly more heroic life than her Earth-616 counterpart. There, she was a member of a group of resistance fighters trying to fight the fascist regime of their version of Captain America. She possessed pretty much all the skills and abilities of Deadpool but with a sporty ponytail sticking out of her mask. That means she can fight, heal, and break the fourth wall just like Wade Wilson.
After her introduction in 2010’s Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth #7, Lady Deadpool showed up in several Deadpool storylines, usually as a more heroic, selfless foil to the main continuity version of the character. She would eventually sacrifice herself during the fight against the Evil Deadpool Corps, flying the Bea Arthur into the head of yet another Deadpool variant who had the powers of Galactus, killing them both.
What does Lady Deadpool’s appearance mean for the MCU?
As Deadpool & Wolverine looks to bring both the Deadpool and X-Men film franchises into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the inclusion of Lady Deadpool confirms something we already suspected – there is going to be a lot of multiversal shenanigans in store when the film hits US cinemas on July 26, 2024. Trailers have already shown the TVA, Dogpool, and some portals that look suspiciously like what we saw in the Doctor Strange films.
Lady Deadpool appears only briefly in the trailer, so we don’t quite know what her role in all this will be, but she seems to be leading a group of soldiers dressed like Deadpool, which could hint at a Deadpool Corps storyline. A more interesting question might be who is beneath the mask, however.
Who plays Lady Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine?
We only get a very brief glimpse of Lady Deadpool in the trailer and she is totally covered by her costume, so it is nigh-impossible to tell who is beneath the mask. Without any confirmation of who is playing Lady Deadpool in the upcoming movie, we are stuck in the realm of fan theories and wild speculation.
The two most likely candidates seem to be Morena Baccarin, who plays Wade’s girlfriend Vanessa in the films, or Blake Lively, who is married to Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds in real life, showing up to play Lady Deadpool. Both could serve for both comedic and dramatic purposes, though we’re leaning toward Lively as an example of Deadpool’s classic meta-humor.
