There is another Mad Max story to be told, says director George Miller (but not anytime soon)

"We've got another script" admits the man behind Fury Road and Furiosa, but there are no plans to make it immediately

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga might not have been everyone’s cup of tea, but its visually spectacular stunts and epic scope underscored just how singular a director George Miller really is — and acted as a reminder of how amazing the Mad Max series of movies can be. With the movie underperforming at the box office, however, some have been wondering if the series has come to an end or if Tom Hardy could return for one more outing.

The answer, according to the writer/director, is… maybe?

“We’ve got another script [for a Mad Max project],” Miller told Vulture recently. “But having been doing this long enough where I’m habituated to storytelling, I find myself with way too many stories — not only in my head, but in the form of screenplays or at least very detailed notes that are within reach of screenplays. I’m a professional daydreamer, really.”

He continued, “So, there’s lots of stories. Indeed, one of them is a Mad Max. It is not something I would do next, because there’s two things I’m keen to do next. But if for whatever reason the planets align, you can never tell. Too often, you’re lining up to do a movie and then something happens. Some things fall into place and some don’t, so all I can say is we’ll see.”

George Miller is 79 years old. Realistically speaking, he probably doesn’t have that many more movies left in him before he retires. Will a fifth (and final, perhaps) Mad Max be one of them? We can but hope.
