Charlie Cox & Jon Favreau plotted to put a 2003 Daredevil movie easter egg in Spider-Man: No Way Home (but it was cut)

Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home almost had a playful reference to the 2003 Daredevil movie.

Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home had some memorable guest appearances, callbacks, and Easter eggs. However, it turns out that one of them wound up on the cutting room floor.

Speaking to a crowd at Tampa Bay Comic Con, Charlie Cox recalled filming his surprise appearance as Matt Murdock for the Marvel Studios/Sony film. This gave Cox the opportunity to work alongside Jon Favreau, who played Murdock’s law partner Happy Hogan in the 2003 Daredevil film. This inspired Cox and Favreau to put a fun reference in the film.

“In Spider-Man I got to do a scene with Jon Favreau who I love,” Cox began. “He also plays Foggy in that film [Daredevil 2003]. I’m not sure if it made it into the movie in the end, but we tried to get a pun in, like a little Easter egg, where I ask him a question and Jon’s character Happy says, ‘Yeah, I’m a little foggy on that right now.’ I don’t know if it made it into the movie, I can’t remember, but we played with it on the day, hoping people would pick up on it.”

Unfortunately, this line didn’t make it to the theatrical cut of the film. Perhaps it will show up on a deleted scenes featurette one day. Either way, I appreciate the fun callback to Daredevil’s cinematic legacy.
