Jonathan Majors is ready for a Kang makeover in the MCU, despite conviction
Promoting his upcoming film Magazine Dreams, Majors told reporters "The version of me that would come back [to the MCU] would be different"

Jonathan Majors, once the heir apparent to Thanos in the MCU, is reentering the spotlight. Having been convicted of misdemeanor assault and harassment in December of 2023 and let go by Marvel Studios on the same day, Majors disappeared quite suddenly from his steady march to becoming a household name. And yet, with a delayed film of his finally seeing release after two hours, Majors isn’t just interested in returning to acting; he would like to rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The upcoming film we’re talking about is Magazine Dreams, a bodybuilding drama that premiered to rave reviews at Sundance the same year Majors was convicted. Now, distributors Briarcliff Entertainment have slated the film for release on March 21, and Majors has been largely involved in the promotion of the film. It was during that promotion (specifically, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly) tha Majors discussed his desire to return to the Marvel saga.
"Yes," Majors said when asked if he would reprise his role as Kang the Conqueror, "The version of me that would come back to those places, though, would be different. I don’t think anything different would happen between 'action' and 'cut.' That’s why I got the job. But there would be something different about it if I were to come back, and I would like that."
Of course, a return for Majors as Kang would hinge on Marvel Studios' willingness to work with him again. And as of this writing, that looks incredibly unlikely. After all, several women are still speaking out about their abusive experiences with Majors. And the moral nature of the situation aside (how often do you hear that these days), the MCU has all but moved on from the idea of Kang filling Thanos’s shoes as the next Big Bad. Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor Von Doom is in line for that role, which he’ll take up fully in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday.
The fact that that film used to be, and is now no longer, called Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, likely tells you all you need to know about the studio's sentiments.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters May 1, 2026.
