Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four: First Steps will lean heavily into the team’s family dynamic, according to Human Torch actor Joseph Quinn
Believe it or not, Quinn says it could be Marvel’s version of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

What does Fast & Furious have in common with the Fantastic Four? It’s all about family.
Joseph Quinn recently made an appearance at Megacon 2025, and as you can imagine, there were lots of questions about the Fantastic Four. The teaser trailer for Fantastic Four: First Steps recently dropped, giving fans their first look at the MCU’s latest super-team. However, as longtime Marvelites already know, the FF are less of a team and more of a family.
According to Joseph Quinn, who is playing the Human Torch, the movie will lean heavily into that. During a spotlight panel at Megacon, Quinn was asked what he was looking forward to the fans seeing in the movie, and his answer was very revealing. “I think the dynamic really. The family dynamic. It’s Marvel’s First Family. They really want to get it right, and I think the cast that they assembled for it are not only brilliant people, but really choice actors.”
Quinn had a lot of praise for his FF castmates, who he says made the project extra special. “Vanessa Kirby, I’ve been admiring her work for so many years. We’ve had so many mutual friends, but we had never really properly met. I’m so excited to kind of be her little brother. It’s great. Ebon Moss-Bachrach, he’s a legend. He’s such a brilliant actor and has done such detailed amazing stuff with Ben Grimm. And Pedro is Pedro. I love him.”
Quinn said that the cast really bonded as a family as they prepared for filming. “We had a week of readthroughs and script work, and it was a relief that everyone around the table was a funny, silly, talented person. That’s always helpful.”
Throughout the spotlight panel, Quinn kept on circling back to the theme of family, signaling that it would be a big part of the movie. “I think the thing that we were really focusing on was trying to establish this dysfunctional caring loving family, and I hope that fans see that and feel that in the film.”
Quinn also sang the praises of director Matt Shakman. Interestingly enough, Quinn says that Shakman’s work on the television comedy It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia paved the way for Fantastic Four.
“[Shakman] has a very singular vision for the film, and that sentiment of family is very important to him, and he really wanted to preserve that. And to give it kind of this ‘60s retro-future kind of flavor was a really choice move. He handled it brilliantly. He’s fun. He’s funny. He comes from the theater world, and he did It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and so he kind of understood that family dynamic that was so crucial to the success of the show.”
An MCU version of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia? Honestly, I can get behind that.
Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters July 25, 2025.
