Netflix's Menendez Brothers documentary release date: A counter to Ryan Murphy's Monsters series

A new Netflix documentary film called The Menendez Brothers will feature interviews with Erik and Lyle Menendez, who were convicted for the murder of their parents.

One of producer Ryan Murphy's most recent projects is Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, a salacious and questionable depiction of the Menendez brothers' murder of their parents in 1989. While the show has been a hit for Netflix, it has been criticized for its sensationalist depiction of the Menendez brothers, who are currently incarcerated, and who also objected to the way they were portrayed onscreen. Viewers who were critical of Murphy's show may be relieved to hear that a documentary, simply titled The Menendez Brothers, will release on Netflix in the coming days.

As opposed to Monsters, which features actors embodying Lyle and Erik Menendez, The Menendez Brothers will include interviews with the siblings as they serve life sentences in prison. In addition, the Menendezs' cousin, Diane Vander Molen, and prosecutor Pamela Bozanich were also interviewed for the film. The film will release on Netflix on October 7, 2024.

After Erik and Lyle Menendez were arrested for the murder of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, in 1990, it ignited a firestorm of media coverage about the brothers. Since the murders had taken place inside the family's Beverly Hills mansion, there was considerable attention brought to the family's wealth and the brothers' lifestyle.

Regardless of how you feel about Ryan Murphy's depiction of Lyle and Erik Menendez, The Menendez Brothers documentary promises to offer a new perspective on the case.
