It looks like Netflix is seeking to grow its existing library of Stephen King adaptations. For some time now, the streamer has had a new adaptation of King's 1981 novel, Cujo, in the works. According to a new report, it looks like Netflix is sparing no expense to bring this literary nightmare to life.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix is looking to bring Darren Aronofsky on as the director of their upcoming adaptation of Cujo. Aronofsky's last film was The Whale from 2022, which won Brendan Fraser an Oscar for Best Actor. Boarding Cujo could be a way for Aronofsky to get back into the genre space he's so famous for, with movies like mother!, Black Swan, and Requiem for a Dream.
Previously, Cujo was adapted into a film in 1983. It was directed by Lewis Teague, starring Dee Wallace from E.T., Daniel Hugh Kelly, and Danny Pintauro. Cujo the First had a decent run at the box office, but has had a more fruitful existence as a cult classic in the twenty-first century. Let's just hope that this Cujo film is better than that awful Pet Sematary remake from 2019.
