Predator: Badlands: While Killer of Killers goes into Earth's history with the Predator, the trailer for the franchise's other 2025 release presents an alien future

Dan Trachtenberg's Amber Midthunder-starring Prey brought us back in time for a Predator of years gone by. With Badlands, he appears to be pointing the time machine forward

Ever since the very first Predator movie in 1987, we've known that humanity has tangoed with the Yautja since before Arnold Schwarzenegger and company got to the proverbial 'choppa.' In the modern era of the franchise, we've seen a little bit more of mankind's duels with the Predators; 2022's Amber Midthunder-starring Prey took us back to the Great Plains in 1719, and 2025's animated Predator: Killer of Killers will journey to the days of the Vikings, Feudal Japan, and WWII. But in the just-released trailer for Predator: Badlands, it appears director Dan Trachtenberg (who's handled all of the previous installments) is bringing the Predator franchise into its most ambitious territory yet:

The future.

Get a look at the footage for yourself.

I have to say, as a person who has always been and remains Team Alien, this trailer has me very excited. Not only does it take the story into the future, but unless Earth has made some pretty big changes, it also appears to be a story set on another planet. That's a concept that has been previously explored in the 2010 Adrien Brody vehicle Predators, which follows a ragtag group of humans that have been let loose on a Predator hunting reserve, but we doubt the two films will handle extraterrestrial setting the same way.

And speaking of things that aren't quite new but we have more hope for from Badlands, the teaser trailer also introduces us to Elle Fanning's character Thia, who appears to be a human(ish?) ally for the titular Predator in this film. Technically, this isn't the first time we've seen Predators and humans teaming up (we saw that in Alien vs. Predator, remember? No? i don't blame you), but again, we very much doubt that will look like what Trachtenberg and go have planned for Predator: Badlands.

Predator: Badlands brings the Predator franchise into the future by arriving in cinemas November 7. Predator: Killer of Killers, meanwhile, gives us a history lesson exclusively on Hulu June 6.
