Novocaine's Amber Midthunder very poorly pretends she's not shot a secret sequel to Predator movie Prey

After her turn in the twisty action romp Novocaine, you'd think Prey star Midthunder could keep a better secret

I won't spoil it here, but there's a pretty huge twist in the Amber Midthunder-starring Novocaine. You already know what I'm talking about if you've seen the movie (and if you haven't, you should), but I won't go into it more than to say: Amber Midthunder and cast did a very, very good job concealing it ahead of the movie's release. Apparently, though, that can't be said for Midthunder's next turn in the Predator franchise.

Some context here: Amber Midthunder was the breakout star of the Predator movie Prey, a story which tok the iconic hunter alien back to a 17th-century Comanche civilization. In the film, Midthunder plays the scrappy, survive-against-all-odds Naru, who beats the Predator in its own game. Even before the movie finished its release weekend on Hulu, fans of the franchise (and good scifi in general) were askign about a sequel.

Smash cut to today, when the Predator franchise is in the best spot its been perhaps since its origin. There's not only another movie in production (Predator: Badlands), but there's a currently untitled "secret Predator movie" confirmed to be coming out in 2025. As you can guess, many have speculated that this is a sequel to Prey, so when they got the chance, that's what The Hollywood Reporter wanted to ask about.

Speaking to Midthunder during the promotion of Novocaine, THR asked the Opus actor about her "go-to response" when people ask about the Prey sequel. Smiling, Midthunder responded "What are you even talking about?", having clearly come from the Tom Holland School of Keeping Movie Secrets. Instead of pursing that hilariously obvious line of questioning, THR switched tactics, asking if Midthunder felt "optimistic" about paying her fan-favorite Predator-slayer.

"I would love to play Naru again," Midthunder said, "I love Dan [Trachtenberg, the film's director]. I love [Prey]. I love that world. I would absolutely love to return."

We're sure you would, Amber. We're sure you would.

Predator: Badlands is in theaters November 7, 2025.
