Tis the season for action, apparently, as we’ve got another potential movie to add to our top festive action films. Red One sees Dwayne Johnson leading a star-studded cast to rescue Santa Claus and save Christmas. But how far will The Rock go for his mission to save Santa? Here is what the age rating for Red One tells us.

What is the age rating for Red One in the US?

The MPA has given Red One an age rating of PG-13, citing “action, some violence, and language” as reasons why younger viewers might not be ready for this particular holiday adventure. However, it is still a much more family-friendly Christmas action movie than 2022’s Violent Night, which starred David Harbour as a decidedly more bloodthirsty version of Santa.

The trailer certainly backs up the more playful tone of Red One, showing Johnson teaming up with Chris Evans to track down Santa Claus after he is kidnapped. There is a slapfight with Krampus and a fight against snowmen on a beach – somewhere snowmen are not known to frequent – to contend with along the way.

What is the age rating for Red One in the UK?

Fans in the UK can look to the BBFC for guidance on Red One’s content rating. It has rated the movie 12A for “moderate violence” and “implied strong language.” It also advises parents that “punchy action violence is counterbalanced by fantasy and humor in this festive adventure.”

Red One stars Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, and Lucy Liu as the team who set out to rescue Santa after he is kidnapped. Saint Nick himself is played by J.K. Simmons. Red One is due out on November 15, 2024 in the US and November 6, 2024 in the UK and Ireland.
