The reports of Stu Macher’s death may have been premature (but we could have told you that).

Last week it was reported that Matthew Lillard would return for Scream 7, which is set to be released in 2026. This weekend, Lillard appeared at Megacon 2025 alongside his Scream costar Skeet Ulrich. Their spotlight panel was packed with Scream fans, and in light of last week’s news, there was one question on everyone’s mind.

“You guys, you want to hear everything,” Lillard teased.  “I come back as a fairy godmother. It’s going to slay.”

“Am I coming back? I’m not used to that question and actually having an answer,” he continued. “It’s so funny, I’ve been asked literally a thousand times a day since the first movie ended if I’m coming back, and I’m happy to report I am.”

“Matt called me and told me when word came down,” Ulrich shared. “I was so ecstatic for him, because anybody who’s been to one of these, or knows him, or has followed him knows how much he has wanted that, so I’m very happy for you brother.” The two costars then hugged, which caused the audience to cheer.

However, there would be no spoilers. “That’s it, that’s all we can talk about,” Lillard said, before moving on.

I guess we’ll have to wait until 2026 to find out more. Who knows, maybe the fairy godmother thing was a spoiler disguised as a joke.
