When Harry met John: Star Wars' John Boyega describes the surprise first meeting he had with co-star Harrison Ford
Harrison Ford had a classic response when he first met John Boyega and Daisy Ridley on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Meeting your new coworkers can be a nerve-racking experience. It’s even worse if you grew up watching them in iconic movies.
When John Boyega was cast as Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it was a dream come true. Boyega had grown up loving the Star Wars saga, and he couldn’t wait to ask his iconic costars for autographs – even if it was against protocol.
“Everybody else was trying to be very professional,” Boyega said during the John Boyega: The Force of Talent panel at C2E2 2025. “Let’s not ask Harrison Ford for an autograph. Let’s not ask Carrie Fisher for her autograph. I have shame. I went and said, ‘Can you please sign my action figure’. You never know. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
“I grew up playing the games, Battlefront. And then to be on set, and to see Harrison say, ‘Good morning kid,’ it’s crazy. So, any opportunity you get to connect to them and get stuff signed, I’m going to do it.”
Boyega then shared the story of his first meeting with Harrison Ford, where the actor gave a classic Ford response.
“It was actually spontaneous because myself and Daisy were doing the first stage of our kind of combat training, and Harrison along with a group of people in suits just walked in, and he kind of just looked at us and went [grunts like Harrison Ford], and then he left. And me and Daisy were just kind of like, ‘That was Harrison Ford!’”
“It wasn’t until after when we rehearsed and had the readthrough. Harrison is the type to sit down and talk to each individual with curiosity. The first thing he said to me, ‘Wait a second, you’re not American.’ I said, ‘No, I’m a British actor.’ We spoke about several different things. Cool guy.”
