In case Ken becoming a Kenobi with Ryan Gosling in talks to sign on for a Star Wars movie wasn’t enough of an update from a galaxy far, far away for you, there’s even more good news coming out of Lucasfilm — the troubled New Jedi Order movie has a familiar writer currently at work on a new draft of the screenplay.
The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that George Nolfi has become the latest writer to board the Daisy Ridley project that will follow up on 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and feature Rey building out a new generation of Jedi in the wake of the defeat of the First Order and the fall of the Emperor. (Well, the second fall of the Emperor.)
Nolfi has a connection to another news story from the week, in that his best known movie is likely Ocean’s Twelve, the middle movie in the Steven Soderberg Ocean’s trilogy that might be about to be relaunched with a new feature from Fall Guy director David Leitch. Additionally, he wrote and directed 2011’s The Adjustment Bureau, starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, demonstrating a familiarity with sci-fi as a genre before he heads into space.
The writer will follow Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight on the feature, who was himself writing a replacement screenplay for the original script by Justin Britt-Gibson and Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof. Throughout all of the changes in the project, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has remained attached as director.
Originally announced back in 2023 at Star Wars Celebration, the officially untitled movie has slipped in Lucasfilm’s production schedule as a result of its rewrites. According to THR, it will now go into production after Shawn Levy’s mystery Star Wars movie that may or may not star Ryan Gosling; The Mandalorian and Grogu finished principal photography in December 2024, and remains on track for a summer 2026 release.
