What’s the difference between making The Mandalorian the Disney+ show, and making The Mandalorian and Grogu, the movie? The scale.
Talking onstage at Star Wars Celebration Japan, director Jon Favreau and creative partner Dave Filoni revealed that, because the upcoming movie spin-off from the fan-favorite show has been filmed for IMAX, they were able to think a little bit bigger — including building a full-scale Walker. Yes, building; no need for CGI or trickery from The Volume here, friends. “I won’t lie, it looked great,” Filoni teased.
Is it an AT-AT Walker, or an AT-ST? We don’t know yet, and Filoni and Favreau weren’t saying. There was an AT-ST in The Mandalorian, but that doesn’t mean that it’ll be the same one in the movie, of course.
The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released in theaters May 26, 2026.
