DC Studios' James Gunn reveals the first look at House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock as the new Supergirl

That certainly looks like the back of Supergirl's head, we guess

World, meet your Maid of Might.

Sure, it’s not an official costume reveal, but DC Studios co-head James Gunn has released the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl on social media, even if you can’t really see anything but the back of her head. The image accompanied a caption in which Gunn shared, “Thrilled to see cameras roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El.” In a second post, he continued, “Craig brings an incredible sensibility to this story, and Milly is every inch the unique #Supergirl envisioned by Tom King, Bilquis Evely and Ana Nogueira,” referencing the creative team behind the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book series that serves as the inspiration for the 2026 feature alongside screenwriter Ana Nogueria.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow officially started production last week.

Two things stand out about this first image:

  • What if the hoodie is part of the official costume? The Supergirl that appears in the Woman of Tomorrow maintained the traditional costume even as she found herself on an emotional journey that pushes her in unexpected directions and leaves her disillusioned with the worldview she’d previously held. If that doesn’t say “time for a hoodie,” what does…?
  • It’s very curious to me that this image, like the first Superman image, is so understated and casual; despite both characters being literal icons and famously over powered, there’s a conscious attempt to humanize both characters and make them easier to empathize with. Is this the key to how DC Studios is going to approach the more famous heroes of the DCU going forward? Should we expect a Batman reveal that will see him having a coffee at a diner, Norman Rockwell-style?

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will fly into theaters June 26, 2026.
