James Gunn's Superman shares the "heart and intelligence" of his Guardians of the Galaxy movies for Marvel, says star

Anthony Carrigan says that everyone involved in DC Studios' first big screen outing worked hard to make it a special movie

While many people are excited for this summer’s release of Superman, James Gunn’s reboot of the cinematic adventures of the Man of Steel — and the DC Universe as a whole — some people find that the movie keeps slipping their mind. People such as Anthony Carrigan, who stars in the movie as Rex Mason, AKA Metamorpho.

“I haven’t seen anything, just the trailers. But I’m very excited,” Carrigan told the Hollywood Reporter when asked about the upcoming release. “I tend to forget quite easily that I’m a part of this movie. So anytime someone reminds me of it, I’m like, ‘Oh, yeah, Superman. Yes, I am in that.’ And it just blows my mind every time.”

When quizzed about the tone of the movie, Carrigan offered, “Well, I am hesitant to liken it to Guardians, but I do think that it has the same heart and intelligence. That’s James’ trademark. But I think it’s going to be its own thing entirely. That’s what’s going to do it the most justice. The process of working on it was such a special one, and the whole cast was on board with bringing something really special to it. So, hopefully, that’s conveyed on screen.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Carrigan suggests that he landed the movie after telling his agents, “I also want to be a part of the biggest storytelling you can be a part of. I want to be a part of magnificent things that are going to really move people.” So… Superman is special, magnificent and moving, and filled with heart and intelligence? Sounds like fans of Kal-El will be satisfied by what they’ll see on screen when the movie arrives in theaters July 11. Even if some of the people responsible for making the movie forget they were a part of it.
