Finally, Art the Clown is getting his origin story told in Terrifier 4 says creator Damien Leone

Damien Leone promises "a most epic, thrilling, nasty, horrifying, emotional and utterly satisfying conclusion" to the hit Terrifier series

It’s taken three movies, but writer/director Damien Leone — the man behind slasher franchise Terrifier — has revealed that, in addition to being the rumored end of the story, the fourth movie in the series will give fans what they've been waiting for, and also head back to the beginning of a certain clown’s murderous career.

Posting on social media January 29, Leone wrote, “Thank you for all the bday wishes[...] Figure I’d give you a present in return! The script for Terrifier 4 is in the works and it’s shaping up to be a most epic, thrilling, nasty, horrifying, emotional and utterly satisfying conclusion. P.s., I will finally reveal Art’s origin.”

"Finally," indeed — The Terrifier franchise officially started with the first movie in way back 2016, although Art the Clown had previously appeared in the 2013 anthology movie All Hallow’s Eve (as well as two earlier shorts), all written and directed by Leone. The set up of the franchise is both deceptively simple — Art the Clown is a demonic serial killer, with Sienna Shaw, a character introduced in the second installment of the series, is the final girl destined to stop him — and enjoyably complex, with an unfolding mythology that more and more fans are showing up for; 2024’s Terrifier 3 became the highest-grossing unrated movie of all time in the US.

Leone has been teasing the end of Art the Clown’s story for some time, promising back in October 2024 that “I know how it ends, and it will be epic.” He’s actually been talking about the conclusion of the series since 2023, ahead of shooting the third movie, seemingly keenly aware of the potential of diminishing returns should the series continue too long.

Terrifier 4 has no announced release date as yet.
