David Howard Thornton has conquered the box office as Art the Clown. Now he’s ready to take on another iconic role….one that’s also a killer clown. Thornton has always loved the Joker. In fact, he played the Joker in the Nightwing: Escalation fan-produced webseries.
During a panel at Nightmare Weekend Richmond, Thornton was asked if he would be up for playing Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime. His answer should surprise no one. “I want it too! He’s my favorite villain of all time, and I want to do him right for once. I want to do a comic book accurate version of the Joker, and I hope someone gives me the chance to finally bring him to life on the big screen, or a television series, or something like that.”
“I’ve memorized a lot of his monologues from different avenues and stuff like that,” Thornton added. Thornton then wowed the crowd by reciting the Joker’s iconic monologue from the Batman: The Animated Series episode ‘The Man Who Killed Batman.’ It was chilling, and the crowd reacted with thunderous applause.
If you’ve seen the Terrifier series, then you know how scary Thornton can get. His version of the Joker would probably give Batman nightmares. With Joaquin Phoenix’s time as Joker over, and Barry Keoghan being sidelined, perhaps it’s time for Thornton to step into the spotlight.
