With Netflix becoming the home of Cobra Kai, you might be surprised that it isn’t the home to the entire Karate Kid story already. However, that oversight is about to be resolved, as the first three Karate Kid films make their way to the streaming giant starting in October – just in time for you to catch up before the next batch of Cobra Kai episodes.
That’s right; the trilogy that kicked off the Karate Kid franchise is returning to Netflix on October 1, 2024. We’re particularly partial to the original – who doesn’t love a good training montage? – but all three movies have their merits. Any movie where Mr. Miyagi bestows an important life lesson that somehow helps Daniel-san win a martial arts tournament is worth watching in our minds.
Seeing The Karate Kid Parts I, II, and III return to Netflix means that they are joining The Next Karate Kid on the streaming service. This means that Netflix is once again home to the complete Miyagi universe before Cobra Kai concludes next year. There are still two parts of Cobra Kai season six to come in 2025, so you’ve got plenty of time to catch up on the entire series.
Unfortunately, we’re still waiting on an update about the upcoming Karate Kid movie that is expected to include both Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso and Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han, who was the mentor figure in the 2010 Karate Kid reboot. Whether that movie eventually makes it out of development remains to be seen, but at least you can watch the rest of The Karate Kid franchise on Netflix while we wait.
