Tom Cruise's Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller says he needs at least 6 months notice before filming Top Gun 3
"It's one month per ab," Teller says he told Tom Cruise while denying he knew when the Top Gun sequel would start filming.

Top Gun: Maverick remains one of the most surprising box office wins in recent years. 36 years after the original movie took our breath away and took us to the danger zone, Tom Cruise returned for a sequel no one needed yet immediately loved. A third Top Gun movie almost immediately went into development, though Cruise’ co-star Miles Teller claims he doesn’t know when it will come out.
“Look, you might be shocked,” he said on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “But I do not green light that thing. I have nothing to do [with it].” However, he did joke that he asked Tom Cruise to give him at least six months' notice before filming would start; not because he needed to move around other work commitments but because he needed that long to get back into shape.
“I just told Tom, I said, give me enough time, [and a] heads up for me to get in shape. It’s one month per ab. I need six months heads up.”
We wouldn’t expect it to take another 36 years for the sequel to Top Gun: Maverick to hit cinemas. Not only would it miss out on the momentum built by the second film in the high-flying franchise but Tom Cruise would be 95 by then and probably in no condition to get up in the air and fly a jet. We know the guy is effectively ageless but even that would be stretching it a little.
Top Gun 3 is currently in development but doesn’t have a release date. If Miles Teller is to be believed, filming is at least six months away.
