Naruto: All the new and upcoming manga, anime, and live-action movies & TV shows on the horizon
The adventures of Naruto and the Hidden Leaf Village never seem to end.
If you thought that the story of Naruto was coming to a close just because his manga ended almost a decade ago, you’re sorely mistaken. Like any successful Shonen series over the years, the publishers of Naruto won’t let the story end just yet. Not only are new anime episodes currently in the works, but there are still movies, video games, and manga based in the Naruto universe just waiting to come out.
With so much content constantly coming out, it can be overwhelming to try to keep up with it all. Fortunately, our handy Naruto watch order will help you know exactly where to start and what you can probably skip.
New & upcoming Naruto manga
While the original Naruto manga ended back in 2014, the adventures of the Uzumaki family have only just gotten started. In 2016, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations began running in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump before moving to V Jump in 2019. Part two of the Boruto manga, subtitled The Blue Vortex, began running in 2023 with new chapters coming out each month in that magazine.
For English fans, new chapters are published on the surprisingly user-friendly Shonen Jump app as soon as they launch in Japan.
New & upcoming Naruto anime TV shows & movies
With the Boruto manga selling well in Japan, it was only a matter of time before the anime adaptation began airing. The Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime ran from April 2017 to March 2023. It went on hiatus at that time but the production studio announced that they were working on an adaptation of the second part of the Boruto manga, The Blue Vortex. The entire Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime series can be seen on Crunchyroll.
However, that isn’t the only exciting development for Naruto fans. In March 2023, it was announced that four new episodes of the Naruto anime were in development and were set to air in September that year as part of the series’ 20th anniversary celebrations. However, in August 2023 these episodes would be delayed due to issues with their quality. As of this writing, no new release date has been announced but it is expected to air at some point in 2024.
New & upcoming Naruto live-action movie
With all the success the Naruto franchise has had over the years, it isn’t surprising that a live-action adaptation is currently in development. What might be surprising is how long it has been in development. Back in 2015, Lionsgate announced that they were developing a live-action movie based on the Naruto franchise. Since then, names like Avi Arad and Michael Gracey have been attached to the movie, but very little concrete information has been given.
The latest update came from a report in November 2023 that Tasha Huo, best known for her work on The Witcher: Blood Origin, would be penning the script. Considering this is the first update we’ve seen on the movie in nearly a decade, it is hard to see Lionsgate is very far into development. However, the success of other live-action anime adaptations like One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho proves that it can be pulled off, giving a bit of hope to Naruto fans around the world.
New & upcoming Naruto video games
One area that Naruto has excelled at compared to many other anime franchises is in the realm of video games. The Ultimate Ninja series, which began in 2003 and continued through to 2023’s Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, is a well-regarded and polished fighting game series, while other series within the Naruto universe have included RPGs and action games.
While there are currently no plans for new video games in the Naruto franchise, it is hard to see the developers stopping for very long. Over 32.5 million units of Naruto video games have been sold worldwide so far, so we expect that more will be in development shortly.
