Netflix's live-action take on Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the biggest TV series of 2024 and has almost arrived, so we've dug deep to find out what its final age ratings are.

The trailers and interviews with the creatives behind the epic fantasy show were already promising a slightly darker retelling of Aang's adventures, and it seems like the final cut of the first season does deliver a more violent and suggestive version of the beloved series.

What rating is the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series in the US?

Avatar: The Last Airbender is rated TV-14 in the US. This corresponds to the MPAA's PG-13 rating for movies, albeit the content under this label can more provocative. Programs with this rating are generally not suitable for children under 14. Netflix's details on the rating for Avatar: The Last Airbender in the US mention violence, scary sequences, and some (it's unclear which) suggestive themes. This is the rating that Wednesday season 1 earned.

What rating is the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series in the UK?

Avatar: The Last Airbender is rated 12 in the UK. According to the BBFC, this type of video content is suitable only for persons aged 12 or over. It's equivalent to the TV-14 rating in the United States, though more permissive when it comes to the age window. Much like in the US, Netflix's details mention violence, scary sequences, and suggestive themes.

What rating is the original Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series?

The original Avatar: The Last Airbender series was much more tailored to the youngest viewers, as it only earned a TV-Y7 rating in the US, which deemed it appropriate for any viewers older than 7 even when the action got very intense.

In the UK, the show was rated PG (general viewing with scenes which may be unsuitable for young children below 8) during most of its run. Season 3, however, earned a lenient U rating (suitable for everyone, though children around 4 might be upset by some images and sequences). As you can tell, Aang and his friends' original odyssey wasn't nearly as intense to watch as the upcoming live-action adaptation.
