A more mature cut is coming sometime in 2024.

When Rebel Moon first landed on Netflix, it was hampered by a slightly baffling release strategy. First came the first part of the movie, with an R-rated cut from Zach Snyder being promised before the end of 2024. Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver’s release date is fast approaching, but will it also have to contend with the same staggered release?

Rebel Moon has been widely described as Zach Snyder’s take on Star Wars, with a planet-hopping journey to fight the rise of space fascism. The first part spent a lot of its runtime setting up how that battle will play out, with Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver needing to wrap up those dangling plotlines when it hits Netflix on April 19, 2024.

Not content with making two feature-length films, Snyder is also releasing an R-rated version of both parts of Rebel Moon, effectively meaning that he is working on four separate movies at the same time. We’re not sure what an R-rated Rebel Moon will give us that the PG-13 version hasn’t aside from more violence and swearing, but Netflix is willing to give the dual versions a platform later in the year.

Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver is the latest in a multi-film relationship between Zach Snyder and Netflix, which includes not only the first part of Rebel Moon but the highly entertaining Army of the Dead film starring Dave Bautista and Fallout’s Ella Purnell. A sequel to that movie, titled Planet of the Dead, is currently in development, with production due to ramp up once Rebel Moon is fully released.

Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver is due out on Netflix on April 19, 2024. No official release date for the upcoming R-rated cut has been announced yet.
