Samuel L Jackson explains how Nick Fury would have squashed Iron Man and Captain America's beef in one line thanks to unseen MCU plothole

If you think about it that way, Civil War really is one big plothole

We like to think that the MCU is a perfectly tight, coherent story from start to finish and Kevin Feige has certainly done a good job of making it seem so. However, there are plotholes in the MCU if you go and look for them. Few people are in a better position to spot them than Samuel L. Jackson, who has been in more Marvel Studios projects over the years than anyone else. He recently pointed out how, in his mind, Captain America: Civil War is one big plothole.

During an interview with GQ that covered some of his most iconic acting moments, Samuel L. Jackson casually pointed out that Nick Fury could have – and should have – shut down the conflict between Captain America and Iron Man before it ever happened. After lamenting that Fury didn’t have much of a presence in Avengers: Infinity War, he said, “I thought that about Civil War, when the kids were fighting. I was like, ‘The kids are fighting and I’m not gonna go to make them go to their room?’ Like, how’s that make sense?”

And you know what? The man is right. S.H.I.E.L.D. was up and running again by this point, as we saw at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Nick Fury had the resources and the influence to sit both of his troublesome superheroes down and get them to sort things out before it destroyed a major international airport. It probably would have involved locking them in a room together until they either hugged it out or were too tired to throw another punch, but it would have worked.

So, the next time you’re watching Captain America: Civil War, just remember that none of it would have happened if Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury had his way.
