Spider-Man actor Tom Holland will only make another Marvel movie if the story "does justice to the character"
Our favorite web-slinger might not make an appearance in the MCU for a little while longer.
In the recent reshuffle at Marvel Studios, there is one big name that hasn’t been bandied about much. When the company updated its upcoming slate of films and TV shows, there was no mention of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man making a return to the big screen for his own film. Turns out, the actor might be waiting for the studio to come up with the right story.
Talking to Collider at the Critics Choice Association press conference, Holland explained that, while there he has been “actively engaging in conversations” to bring the MCU’s Spider-Man to the big screen once again, but nothing was set in stone. “I feel very protective over Spider-Man. I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy.”
While he certainly left the door open to a return as Peter Parker, Tom Holland was unusually coy about it. “I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.” The Uncharted star made it clear that the sticking point for him was trying to “find a way to do justice to the character.”
Considering the huge success of Spider-Man: No Way Home and how popular the character remains with both movie and comic book fans, we’d be surprised if Tom Holland didn’t make a return as the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man at some point, either in a stand-alone film or as part of a team up with other Marvel heroes. They just need to find the right story to tell with the character.
