Star Trek: Lower Decks is ending with its fifth season (and for us fans, we knew it was coming)
It's not all bad news, however, as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has already been renewed for its fourth season

Sad news for the crew of the USS Cerritos, with news emerging that the upcoming fifth season of Star Trek: Lower Decks will be the series’ last.
In a statement accompanying the announcement of the show’s conclusion, executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Mike McMahon wrote, “We remain hopeful that even beyond Season 5, Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford and the whole Cerritos crew will live on with new adventures. While five seasons of any series these days seems like a miracle, it’s no exaggeration to say that every second we’ve spent making this show has been a dream come true.”
The show’s conclusion is not entirely unexpected; rumors that the series might not continue beyond the fifth season started to emerge in late 2023, following the announcement that Star Trek: Discovery would also come to an end with its fifth season. (That season is currently streaming on Paramount+, with the finale currently scheduled for May 30.) Additionally, the end of the show’s fourth season saw each of the core cast receive promotions, essentially bringing the show’s core concept to a close — the cast were literally no longer part of the lower decks crew.

The fifth season of Lower Decks has now been confirmed to debut in fall 2024.
Thankfully, it’s not all bad news for Trek fans; at the same time that Star Trek: Lower Decks’ conclusion was announced, it was also revealed that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been renewed for a fourth season, ahead of the debut of its third, which will begin at some point in 2025.
Both Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds stream exclusively on Paramount+, as is the case for Star Trek: Discovery.
