Star Wars fans are about to Sith themselves.
The last time we saw the Galaxy Far, Far Away was in October of last year, when the finale of Ahsoka aired on Disney+. Since then, diehards have been chopming at the bit for more info on The Acolyte, the next Star Wars series headed to the streamer. Now, we can officially reveal the Star Wars: The Acolyte release date.
What is the Star Wars: The Acolyte release date?
the Star Wars: The Acolyte release date is June 4, 2024, at 9pm Eastern / 6pm Pacific as was the case with Ahsoka.
What is Star Wars: The Acolyte about?
Interestingly, Star Wars: The Acoylte will serve as a prequel to the prequel trilogy, set about a century before Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. The series will follow a yet-unnamed Jedi padawan (played by Amandla Stenberg) and Jedi master (played by Lee Jung-jae) as they investigate a series of heinous crimes that will, we assume, tie into the resurrection fo the Sith that begins the Skywalker saga.
When in the Star Wars timeline is The Acolyte set?
As we said, The Acolyte is set one hundred years before Phantom Menace, which places it right around the end of the 'High Republic' era of the galaxy. Learn more about this placement in history with Popverse's guide to the Star Wars timeline.
Is Darth Plagueis in The Acolyte?
There's a great question. Let's begin by saying that there's been no official confirmation of the great Sith Lord's involvement in The Acolyte, so what we're about to say is purely speculation.
The Phantom Menace is set in the year 32 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin, an in-universe marker of eras). This would put The Acolyte in the year 132 BBY, give or take. So do we know if Darth Plagueis is alive/active in that period?
Unfortunately, we don't. Darth Plagueis's history, species, and most importantly, age are not specified in the Star Wars canon.
Not yet, anyway. It's entirely possible that changes this summer.
Star Wars: The Acolyte heads to Disney+ June 4, 2024.
