Where would society be without medical dramas? Without them, we might not have the campy masterpiece that is Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, thanks to George Clooney’s success on E.R. And now, there’s a new medical drama on the horizon with NBC’s upcoming series called Brilliant Minds, starring Zachary Quinto.

Quinto plays a neurologist named Oliver Wolf, be inspired by the famed British neurologist and writer, Oliver Sacks. Wolf’s team of other neurologists probe the mysteries of the human mind while also struggling with their own personal lives. The series will premiere on Monday, September 23 at 10:00 PM ET/PT on NBC.

Oliver Sacks was interested in understanding the quirks of the human mind. He had prosopagnosia, a condition also known as faceblindness, where he struggled with recognizing other people’s faces. Sacks wrote books like The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat: and Other Clinical Tales about cases of agnosia, a condition where patients are unable to visually distinguish individual objects. If Brilliant Minds is leaning into the work of Oliver Sacks, then it is clear that the show will not suffer from a dearth of inspiration.

Brilliant Minds will have its series premiere on Monday, September 23 at 10:00 PM ET/PT on NBC.
