Matlock season 1 release date: Kathy Bates resurrects a classic legal comedy

This isn’t your Matlock of old

No, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you: Matlock is back. CBS has announced its fall programming schedule, with the Matlock reboot starring Kathy Bates in the cards. With Bates playing Madeline “Matty” Matlock, this reboot is different from the Matlock of old.

The new Kathy Bates show will focus on Madeline Matlock as she dips her toe back into the field of law. Matlock relies on her smarts and quickly makes waves in the law firm she works in. The series also stars Skye P. Marshall as Olympia, who plays the attorney that Matlock is assigned to work under, alongside Jason Ritter, playing Olympia’s ex-husband, Julian. The cast is rounded out by David Del Rio’s Billy and Leah Lewis’s Sarah, who also work at the law firm.

To catch the newest iteration of the show, viewers can tune in to CBS on Thursday, October 17 at 9 PM ET/PT. There will also be a special sneak peek of Matlock airing Sunday, September 22 at 8 PM ET/PT on CBS. Viewers can also stream and watch Matlock on demand on Paramount+.

This 2024 Matlock show is a reboot of the now classic show of the same name starring Andy Griffith. Griffith’s Matlock show ran from 1986 to 1995, and followed criminal defense attorney Ben Matlock as he worked to apprehend criminals using his wit. Clearly, the Matlock reboot with Kathy Bates will reimagine the core elements of the original Matlock show for a new generation of viewers.

Matlock season 1 will premiere Thursday, October 17 at 9 PM ET/PT on CBS and Paramount+.
