It's one thing to die and be reincarnated in a fantasy world. It's another thing entirely to do so without a spine. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime’s third season is setting up a big showdown between Rimuru’s growing monster kingdom and the humans charged with keeping monsters at bay, the Ten Great Saints. Who are these holy crusaders and how much of an issue are they likely to cause Rimuru?
We’ll be discussing spoilers from the manga for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime to figure out what will happen during season three.
What will happen during That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season three?
Season two of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ended with Rimuru killing one of the Ten Great Demon Lords. That set off two things – the first is that they need a new name because you can’t call yourself the Ten Great Demon Lords if there aren’t ten of you. It would just be silly. So they turn to Rimuru to give them a new name.
After that, things will properly heat up. Rimuru’s actions uniting the monsters of the land under a single kingdom have brought unexpected peace, but to the humans who live nearby, they represent a growing threat. Which is why they have attracted the attention of the Ten Great Saints, who will be the primary antagonists for season three of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
Who are the Ten Great Saints in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime?
Hailing from the Holy Empire of Lubelius, the Ten Great Saints represent the most powerful human warriors in the land. Membership is reserved for the most powerful and capable humans in the Empire, all of whom had to have achieved Enlightenment and obtained even greater power through rigorous training.
There are two sub-groups within the Ten Great Saints – The Crusaders, who form the bulk of their numbers, and the Three Battlemages, who have a more specialized role within the group. Their members when they are introduced in season three are:
Hinata Sakaguchi
The leader of the Ten Great Saints, she is an otherworlder who was brought to the Central World as a teenager. She actually makes her first appearance in a brief cameo in the first season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Hinata is ruthless, powerful, and relentless in her pursuit of Rimuru and his friends.
Leonard Jester
Despite being Rimuru’s enemies throughout season three of the anime, not all of the Ten Great Saints are bad people. Leonard is a kind-hearted individual who shows great compassion and loyalty toward his friends. He is particularly loyal to Hinata Sakaguchi after she saved him from a Demon attack when he was still an apprentice.
Arnaud Bauman
Arnaud is considered the second strongest member of the Ten Great Saints after Hinata. Part of his intense training has been to remain in strict control over his emotions even in stressful situations, never allowing anger or sadness to cloud his judgment.
Bacchus
As one of the Captains of the Crusaders in the Holy Empire, Bacchus is one of the most dangerous foes of Rimuru and his young kingdom of monsters. He fights with a quiet determination while wielding a Holy Mace.
Litus
Don’t let her slight frame fool you – Litus of Water is one of the coolest and most collected members of the Ten Great Saints. She is the one dispatched first to investigate Rimuru and his Monster Kingdom and is later one of the core combatants when war breaks out between the Empire and Rimuru’s friends. She develops an unusual fascination with Souei after their fight.
Garde
A fire mage who wields a powerful spear known as the Red Spear, Garde is as hot-tempered as the element he uses. However, he holds a secret that will threaten the stability of the Holy Empire as a whole when it is revealed at the climax of season three.
Fritz
Every group needs a slacker and that’s Fritz. Despite his expertise in combining wind magic and swordsmanship, he is typically in a playful and laidback mood. While he believes in the Ten Great Saints and their work, his true dedication is to Hinata, whom he idolizes.
Saare
The Leader of the Three Battlemages within the Ten Great Saints, Saare fulfills the anime trope of looking like a young boy while actually being one of the oldest Great Saints thanks to his elven blood. He is prideful and difficult, often clashing with the group’s leadership simply because he can. However, he is willing to put his pride aside when it comes to battling monsters and the enemies of the Empire.
Grigori
The second most powerful of the Three Battlemages, Grigori fights by hardening his body and becoming nearly indestructible. He is known as The Immovable for this reason. He is the most physically imposing of the Ten Great Saints, though he develops a particularly intense fear of dogs and other canines after the events of season three of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
Glenda Attley
When he first sees her, Rimuru describes Glenda as a “classic spy-film femme fatale” due to her beauty and revealing clothes. She was summoned from another world by the Rosso family’s ritual and became bound to serve them as a result. Because of this, she has a constant conflict within her. She is hopelessly greedy and is always trying to turn a profit, yet she is bound to do good acts due to her work with the Rosso family.
