Superhero cinematic universes can be a funny thing. While Marvel and DC are more conventional with their spin-offs, The Boys took a more risqué approach. At least they tried to, until the lawyers stepped in. During a panel at Florida Supercon 2023, the cast of Amazon’s superhero dark comedy revealed how their showrunner Eric Kripke was ready to launch a porn spin-off.
The idea stemmed from a moment in the season 2 episode ‘Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker’ where Lamplighter finds a stack of superhero porn DVDS. “They actually shot that porn. What Kripke wanted to do was start a superhero porn site. Like a Pornhub, but it was going to be called Suphub,” Laz Alonso said.
“They were going to mass produce the dildos too,” Jessie T. Usher recalled. “He wanted to sell the dildos on Amazon,” Alonso added.
“We need to tap into that market,” Karen Fukuhara quipped.
Unfortunately, not everyone was enthusiastic about the idea. “Amazon said no. The lawyers wouldn’t let it go,” Alonso said. “He was going to create a Suphub, and just drop it. Just let people discover it on their own. But the legal department said ain’t no way it’s happening. They had ‘Running A-Train,’ and ‘Big Black Noir.’ It was crazy.”
