The Queen of Villains release: when the Dump Matsumoto doc hits Netflix

Learn when the unknown tale of Dump Matsumoto when this upcoming wrestling drama on Netflix arrives.

In The Queen of Villains, the upcoming series that will debut on Netflix this fall, audiences will be introduced to the unknown story of Dump Matsumoto. Portrayed in the series by Yuriyan Retriever, Matsumoto became Japan’s most notorious wrestingly heel, catalyzing the women’s professional wrestling boom in the country in the 1980s. A “fictional story based on real people and real events,” The Queen of Villains promises to be a show that everyone is talking about. But when will it arrive for streaming on Netflix?

The series is written and produced by Osamu Suzuki, who teams-up with director Kazuya Shiraishi. In addition to Retriever as Matsumoto, the cast also includes Karata Erika as Chigusa Nagayo and Goriki Ayame as Lioness Asuka. This pair is the pro-wrestling tag-team duo against which Matsumoto must battle. Meanwhile, the real-life Chigusa Nagayo serves as the pro wrestling supervisor for The Queen of Villains.

In a quote included in the Netflix press materials, the real-life Dump Matsumoto said, “Some parts will make you cry, and I hope people will watch The Queen of Villains and feel like their dreams can come true if they never quit or lose.” Meanwhile, the real-life Nagayo said, “Our story from the 1980s is now complete with this work. I want to express my thanks to the women we were back then as well.”

Audiences won’t have to wait too long to see the show for themselves. The release date for The Queen of Villains season 1 on Netflix is September 19, 2024. Will you be grabbing a ringside seat when it arrives?
