TJ Klune's House in the Cerulean Sea may continue… as graphic novels
TJ Klune has an idea for spinoff graphic novels in the Cerulean Chronicles, and knows the House in the Cerulean Sea character who would star

There may not have been an announcement of Book 3 in TJ Klune's Cerulean Chronicles at C2E2 2025, but in his spotlight author panel during the show, Klune revealed the idea for a graphic novel that could spin out of the beloved fantasy world.
Speaking to a packed audience, alongside sci-fi writer John Scalzi as the master of ceremonies, Klune first revealed that his favorite character may well be Chauncey, the amorphous green gelatinous charmer stealing reader's hearts in The House in the Cerulean Sea. Living in a house full of unique orphans like Lucy (the antichrist) and Talia (a rare female garden gnome), Chauncey stands out for his fervent desire to become the world's greatest bellhop. Klune remarked that he loved how Chauncey was like a kid obsessed with one specific thing that becomes their whole personality.
Klune made the audience promise they would not hold him to this, as nothing is set in stone, but the author then revealed his idea for a series of spinoff graphic novels starring Chauncey as the caretaker (and of course bellhop) of his own hotel. Chauncy would also be occupied "solving inconsequential mysteries" as he lived his best concierge life. Scalzi teased that the work would be available a year from now, and although he's clearly joking, I can't help but hope some comics publishers were in the room and paying attention.
Somewhere Beyond the Sea, the sequel to House in the Cerulean Sea, and Book #2 in the Cerulean Chronicles was released in September 2024. As no official news is yet available on a possible Book #3, the temptation of a Chauncey-led spinoff series filling in the gaps is immensely appealing.
Clearly this should happen, and hopefully Klune hears as much following C2e2. Only one question remains: Who should draw it?
