This is one nostalgia trip that's... more than meets the eye

This May, Autobots and Decepticons nationwide get to relive the heady days of 1984, as the Transformers animated series celebrates 40 years with a milestone cinematic event. This theatrical release of a Transformers table read will feature OG voice actors Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, but don't think this event will only focus on the past - according to an inside source, the screenings will open with an ad for the current run of Transformers comics.

That inside source is Skybound VP of Brand and Editorial Arune Singh, who posted the news to Twitter/X April 26. "Proud to say I storyboarded the new Skybound Energon Universe trailer," reads his post, "that will play before these TRANSFORMERS theatrical screenings across the country, driving fans to their local comic shops."

"Shout out to the epic Adam Huebner," Singh concludes, "whose video work will make you stand & cheer."

For those not in the know, the Energon Universe is Skybound's latest project weaving together multiple IPs belonging to Hasbro toy producers. The universe is currently comprised of both Transformers and GI Joe lore, with more properties potentially on the way as the Energon Universe line continues to grow.

And hopefully, with ads for the titles playing on big screen, that growth will speed up.

The Transformers 40th Anniversary Cinema Event heads to select theaters May 15, 18, and 18. you can purchase tickets on the official website.
