The first footage from Noah Hawley’s TV series based on the Alien franchise has been released, and it’s a sign that audiences should prepare for a very familiar threat to hit our shores this summer.
The new teaser for Alien: Earth — which relocates the xenomorph threat to our own planet for the first time in the franchise’s on-screen history, although it’s happened before in non-canonical comics from the 1990s — could be considered something of a prologue for what’s to come. The 30-second spot features a xenomorphic point of view speeding through a spaceship in a manner that fans of David Fincher’s Alien 3 will find familiar, before the camera moves outside the ship… which looks set to crash-land on Earth. So I guess we know how the alien gets to our planet, then.
To be fair, the official description for the series reads, “When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat.”
(Still, though; who thought that Alien 3 would be a touchstone for this show? What's next, callbacks to Alien: Resurrection?!? Please, no.)
Alien: Earth has been in the works for a number of years at this point, with Fargo creator Hawley noodling with the idea since at least 2022. The show is reportedly a prequel to the franchise as it exists, taking place at some point between Prometheus and the original 1970s Alien movie.
Alien: Earth will crash onto our screens summer 2025 on FX/Hulu. Watch the teaser below.
