A single purple dinosaur changed a generation in the '80s and '90s - and now he's returning in an all-new animated series.

The huggable T-Rex known as Barney returns this October in his first-ever animated series, Barney's World. The first season of Barney's World will debut October 11 on YouTube, then October 14 on the Max streaming service, and following that October 18 on the Cartoon Network channel.

The Barney's World animated series is set in a playground where Barney and his dino pals Billy and Baby Bop play with three human children - David, Mel, and Vivie. Expect games, fun, and of course the music like in the original series - and in some cases, reviving the songs of the original live-action series.

"Barney nurtures the power of love in all of us, and we are thrilled to bring him back to fans all around the world," says Mattel's chief franchise officer Josh Silverman in the announcement. "We hope this modern revival leaves an impression on young audiences, imparting lessons that will positively influence them as they grow up."

Barney's World comes as part of a larger partnership between the franchise's owner, Mattel, and Warner Bros. Discovery that includes other Mattel adaptations such as 2023's Barbie movie, and an upcoming movie for Hot Wheels.
