10% Criminal, 90% Minds: Matthew Gray Gubler will play Albert Einstein's fictional descendent in new CBS procedural

Based on a German police procedural of the same name, Gubler will star as Lewis Einstein, Albert's great-grandson who helps a detective (Rosa Salazar) solve mysteries

Talk about typecasting.

Perhaps known for his role in Criminal Minds, in which he plays a quirky genius with a penchant for solving impossible crimes, Matthew Gray Gubler has been announced to be starring in the upcoming CBS police procedural, Einstein...

In which he will play a quirky genius with a penchant for solving impossible crimes.

The story comes from The Hollywood Reporter, who announced that CBS will be adding the new Gubler seies, Einstein, to its 2025-26 season. But the series name isn't just a play on the intelligence displayed by Gubler's character - according to THR, Gubler will play a fictional descendent (great-grandson) of Albert Einstein himself, who assists the police in solving crimes.

Truly, folks, it writes itself.

Also included in the report is Gubler's co-star, Rosa Salazar, a detective who will act as the young Einstein's link to the world of law enforcement (the Don to his Charlie, for all my NUMB3RS fans out there), as well as the identity of the show's creator. That would be Andy Breckman, known in most crime procedural circles as the man who created Monk. And while the show isn't wholly original to Breckman's brain (a German version of the show ran from 2017-2019), fans can count on Breckman's spiffy, bright wit for bringing the idea to America in style.

Next up - NBC will announce their quirky science-based procedural featuring a little Oppenheimer.

Einstein's release date has not yet been announced, but you can bet Popverse will let you know once it has.
