Minnie Driver is the new Penguin in DC's Batman: Caped Crusader

The Good Will Hunting co-star is now being the Bad Oswalda Cobblepot.

Awhile back, DC Studios announced Minnie Driver was playing a mystery role in the upcoming Amazon Prime Video animated series Batman: Caped Crusader. With Catwoman and Harley Quinn already cast, fans and some colleagues at other outlets speculated who she could be - but the answer is something no one saw coming.

Minnie Driver is playing the Penguin.

As announced this weekend here at San Diego Comic-Con, the Grosse Point Blank star is playing a genderbent version of the classic DC villain, as Oswalda Cobblepot. During Saturday's Batman: Caped Crusader panel, Driver said it was a "beautiful retelling" of the traditionally male Penguin.

"If we’re lucky enough to be invited onto the stage to inhabit these characters that already exist in the ether, we just sort of rise up to meet them," Driver said . "And this was such a beautiful retelling of that villain. It was joyful. And, I mean, she’s dreadful."

Batman: Caped Crusader debuts August 1 on Amazon Prime Video.
