Marvel Studios' 2025 Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ is a continuation of the hit Netflix series Daredevil, but as Marvel Studios has told us before, it's not simply a new season. In fact, as Marvel Studios' head of streaming, television, and animation Brad Winderbaum is saying today in a new interview, it's aiming to make the same leap X-Men '97 did from the show it was based on.

"Daredevil is incredible. It's similar in some ways, to X-Men '97 because it's reviving something that the fans love. But it is taking it in a new direction," Winderbaum says in this week's episode of the Official Marvel Podcast. "These characters have matured; the universe is different than it was. Things have changed. Society has changed."

Winderbaum says that Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk/Kingpin have "changed", and that their dynamic is also changing.

"Matt and Wilson have changed and their characters are going to collide in ways we've never seen before. It's no longer enough to try to murder each other," says Winderbaum. "There's a whole game of politics at play."

While Winderbaum doesn't say what he means by "politics", we already might know the answer. Set photos from Daredevil: Born Again show that Fisk will become Mayor of New York City - based on a recent Marvel Comics' storyline which culminated in the Devil's Reign event. (That plot development was teased in the final episode of Disney+'s Echo miniseries earlier this year.)

So in Daredevil: Born Again, Daredevil can't just go out to murder the mayor of NYC without disrupting Hell's Kitchen, all of New York City, and possibly the U.S. as a whole - which might be an even bigger deal than before, with Daredevil: Born Again firmly set inside the larger MCU.

Daredevil: Born Again is announced to debut in March 2025 on Disney+.
