Marvel Studios' Daredevil: Born Again - The cast, release date expectations, plot, and how it connects to the MCU

Netflix's Daredevil is returning as Disney+'s Daredevil: Born Again thanks to Marvel Studios - here is all the key details

After seven years, Marvel Studios' Daredevil TV series is being born again - literally - in a 2025 Disney+ series titled Daredevil: Born Again. Taking its name (and hopefully inspiration) from the classic Marvel Comics storyline of the same name by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli, Marvel Studios' Daredevil: Born Again brings Marvel's best TV show ever back (you can argue with me about the best TV show ever bit in the comments) - and into the loving embrace of the MCU and all that goes with it. And, best of all, Charlie Cox isn't alone, because he's bringing his old friends from the Netflix show as well.

With filming underway in New York right now (Yes, it's taking place in Hell's Kitchen), Daredevil: Born Again marks the return of the entire Daredevil world to the small screen after the main character has appeared in both Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. With returning talent, a new streaming home, and a series title synonymous with greatness, Matt Murdock is poised to have a triumphant homecoming to the Marvel fold. With the well-loved Daredevil series behind us, what does the future hold for The Man Without Fear? Fear not. We have all the information you'll need to stay informed of his anticipated arrival.

While you wait, we have a guide to how to watch all of Charlie Cox's Daredevil right here.

What is the Daredevil: Born Again release date?

Daredevil: Born Again is announced to debut in March 2025 on Disney+. We anticipate it to be serialized with a new episode each week, although Echo was dropped all at once, Netflix style.

Daredevil: Born Again was originally announced for a spring 2024 debut, but the writer's and actor's strike - along with some cold feet about the original version of it - led to changes in the showrunner, and even some recastings - although it was to bring back more of the original cast of the Netflix Daredevil.

Who is in the Daredevil: Born Again cast?

Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio are confirmed to return in their leading roles as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk respectively. Jon Bernthal also makes his Marvel return (and official Marvel Studios debut) as Frank Castle a.k.a The Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again.

Here is a complete cast list for Daredevil: Born Again:

  • Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock / Daredevil
  • Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk / Kingpin
  • Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / Punisher
  • Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn
  • Michael Gandolfini as Daniel Blade
  • Genneya Walton as BB Urich
  • Arty Froushan as Buck Cashman
  • Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page
  • Elden Henson as Franklin "Foggy" Nelson
  • Wilson Bethel as Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter
  • Jeremy Earl as Cole North
  • Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Marianna-Fisk
  • Nikki M. James as Kirsten McDuffie
  • Clark Johnson as Cherry
  • Zabryna Guevara as Sheila Rivera

In addition, Daredevil: Born Again has cast the following individuals in as-yet-undisclosed roles: Lou Taylor Pucci, Michael Gaston, Marc Geller, and Harris Yulin.

And with the return of both Daredevil and Kingpin in other live-action Disney+ series, its completely possible we could see a cameo or two from She-Hulk star Tatiana Maslany, given her romance with Daredevil (which Charlie Cox has said he wants to do more with).

Who is the Daredevil: Born Again creative team?

Daredevil: Born Again was originally meant to be written and executive produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord. After production delays due to the writers and actors strikes, Marvel Studios decided to go in a different direction with the show, with a brand new creative team. Corman and Ord have left the show, and Deadline has now reported that Dario Scardapane, who worked on the Punisher series, will be serving as the new showrunner, with directing team Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (Loki season 2) taking on directorial duties for the series.

What will the Daredevil: Born Again rating be?

If Vincent D'Onofrio has it his way, it'll be R-rated. While speaking on BroBible's Post Credit Podcast, the Wilson Fisk actor said that, as far as he knows, the team behind Daredevil: Born Again is aiming to have a mature rating.

Has a Daredevil: Born Again trailer been released?

Unfortunately for us, there is no trailer for the much-anticipated series yet. While you wait, you have an episode of She-Hulk to watch for some lovely MCU Daredevil action or switch over the Hawkeye series season finale and the ensuing Echo series for a taste of Vincent D'Onofrio's brand new take on WIlson Fisk a.k.a Kingpin.

What is the Daredevil: Born Again plot?

There is currently no concrete information on the story for Daredevil: Born Again as details remain under wraps. Set photos have revealed clues of a possible Mayor Fisk storyline for the upcoming series, spinning off the end of the Echo miniseries. Charlie Cox stated in an interview that he hoped to take what worked from the original series and broaden its appeal to capture younger audiences. If the series follows the storyline of the titular comics, Matt Murdock will have his life systematically ruined by The Kingpin, leaving our hero to pick up the shattered pieces. The original comic book Daredevil: Born Again is considered by many to be one of the greatest Daredevil storylines. The series was written by Frank Miller and drawn by David Mazzucchelli.

How is Disney+'s Daredevil: Born Again connected to Netflix's Daredevil?

There is no official word on if and how Daredevil: Born Again will connect to the original Netflix series. The belief is the Disney+ outing is a soft reboot of the franchise, with the title 'Born Again' literally referring to the character's fresh start in the MCU. With Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio returning in their starring roles, there is already an established connection to the original Netflix series. With the MCU exploring the multiverse, that could explain the similarities of both the Netflix and Disney series universes. We need an official word from the dictator of canon events, Kevin Feige, to be certain.

What isn't these days? The moment Daredevil was fully back in Marvel's hands, they threw Matt Murdock into Spider-Man: No Way Home. Marvel continues to slowly feeding the bulk of the Disney Plus properties back into the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. WandaVision and Loki lead into Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania respectively. The likes of Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Hawkeye remain on the sidelines for now, but there is no doubt they will appear in a future MCU outing. Long story short, welcome to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Daredevil.

What is the Daredevil: Born Again season 1 episode count?

Daredevil: Born Again will have a nine-episode first season. That is down from the originally announced (and massive) 18-episode first season - presumably part of the same revisions to the series that resulted in a change of showrunners.

Will there be a Daredevil: Born Again season 2?

While nothing is officially announced, star Vincent D'Onofrio teased plans for a second season. During an interview with Newsweek, D'Onofrio shared information on how filming Daredevil: Born Again was going and revealed a second season is already planned. Marvel rarely plans a one-off property, opting to weave all its existing characters together in some way. With the Daredevil brand as beloved by fans as it is, a second season of Daredevil: Born Again is a no-brainer.

Where can I watch Daredevil: Born Again?

Disney+ is the home for every small-screen Marvel outing. Daredevil: Born Again is no exception. You'll also find all the original Netflix Marvel series on the House of Mouse streaming service to tide you over until the release of Daredevil: Born Again.
