In 2021 it was announced that David Tennant would be producing and starring in a new version of Jekyll and Hyde. The classic novel would be reimagined as Hide, a drama series for the streaming service Peacock. It’s been three years since the announcement, and we still haven’t seen the series. What happened?
It turns out David Tennant isn’t sure either. Tennant recently appeared at a spotlight panel during Florida Supercon 2024, where Popverse’s Veronica Valencia asked him about the series.
“What did happen to that? Do you have any information?” Tennant asks, turning the question back to Veronica.
“I think you probably know about as much as I do about that. I mean, these things can take a long time, and go through various lives at different stages. Who knows? It would be a lovely thing to be part of. It's a great story.”
It’s a shame, because the Doctor Who actor was excited about tackling the role.
“As an actor, it's a great story, isn't it? You get to play two different parts. It's one of those tales that keeps being retold. Whenever that story is retold, it has new resonances and new echoes. The Incredible Hulk is the same story, isn't it? It's got legs as a piece of potential storytelling. So, we'll see...who knows?”
Perhaps one day Peacock will revive the project. Seeing Tennant as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (or Mr. Hide) would be entertaining television.
