Superman & Lois star Tyler Hoechlin reveals which of the six Man of Steel suits was his favorite to wear

Tyler Hoechlin wore six costumes during his stint as the CW’s Superman, but only one of them felt comfortable

Tyler Hoechlin has worn his fair share of Superman costumes. Tyler was first cast in the role for a 2 episode guest spot on Supergirl. This evolved into a recurring role across the CW’s various DC Universe shows, culminating in his own show, Superman and Lois.

Tyler has worn six different Superman outfits from his 2016 debut on Supergirl to the 2024 series finale of Superman and Lois. During a spotlight panel at Fan Expo San Francisco 2024, Tyler was asked which Superman was his favorite. For Tyler, it was all about comfort.

“The Fleischer suit was the most comfortable. That one had the most give. It moves a lot more,” Tyler said.

“It was also the cutest,” Bitsie Tulloch added.

The two are referring to the costume Superman wore during flashback scenes set in the early days of his career. It’s been affectionately referred to as the Fleischer suit because it was modeled after the costume worn in the 1941-1943 animated shorts produced by Fleischer Studios.

“It was fun. I loved it. I did have fun with that one,” Tyler said. “And also, that scene was amazing, with the green car,” Bitsie recalled. Bitsie is referring to a flashback scene from the Superman and Lois pilot, where Superman, wearing the Fleischer suit, catches a car. The scene was an homage to the cover of Action Comics #1, Superman’s first appearance.

“The car, the Volkswagen, I guess ours was a Cruiser. That scene, our flashback scenes with that, with Atom-Man and all that, I really did enjoy that. That one is the one that when I see in the closet, I’m like, it’s a good day today,” Tyler said.

Now that Superman and Lois has ended, Hoechlin doesn’t have to worry about any restrictive and uncomfortable suits. However, if DC Studios ever asks him to reprise his role for a cameo, we can guess which costume he’ll want to wear.
