Is it weird that I wonder if any of the former Doctors hang out?
I think of it like those pictures we sometimes see of former United States Presidents getting together…excepts it’s Time Lords. Do they swap stories about their companions?
Thanks to Florida Supercon, I know the answer! Speaking to a crowd during a spotlight panel, former Doctor Who actor David Tennant spoke about the special kinship he shares with the other Doctors.
“Matt [Smith] and I have had a few chats. Peter Capaldi I knew anyway, so we had a bit of a catch up before he started, and then Jodie Whittaker I knew extremely well, because we worked together on a show called Broadchurch for 3 seasons, so I knew Jodie very, very well. That's always been a part of it. And then Ncuti Gatwa took over, we were in the show together. So, we had actual scenes together, which was a particular treat. I was there on his first day, which must have been absolutely terrifying for him.”
“[Gatwa] told me he was terrified. Then he started acting, and it was like he was born to it. He just had this energy that just sort of bounced out of him. It was just a pleasure to be around him. We're both from Scotland, so we had that kinship,” Tennant continued.
According to Tennant, there is a special bond between all the former Doctors. “It's quite a small club. I don't know how many are still around, but there's only a handful of people who have been in the middle of that show, and it's quite unique. And most of it is wonderful, and some of it's quite overwhelming, so it's quite good to have a bit of a support group where you can talk about what the sensation of that is. What a treat. What an honor to be in the middle of that.”
This is absolutely heartwarming. Not only are the former Doctors close friends, but they also lift each other up, and help the new Time Lords settle into the job.
I wonder if they have a group chat.
