Eiichiro Oda has promised 2025 will have plenty of big announcements for One Piece - here's what we think they will be

From Netflix's live action adaptation getting a season 3 to the upcoming end of the manga, One Piece is poised to be big this year.

Every year feels like a big one for One Piece fans, but 2025 has the potential to be even bigger than usual. That isn’t just us riding the hype train – One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda has hinted that several announcements are coming this year. With the anime returning in April and season two of Netflix’s live action adaptation out this year, we’re wondering what One Piece announcements Oda might have planned for 2025.

The speculation comes from a statement made by Eiichiro Oda at Jump Fiesta 2025. After explaining why he is so dedicated to the live action series, Oda goes on to say that he and his team “will be preparing various new announcements next year for One Piece” and that manga fans should “enjoy the breather while you can, for you may not get a chance to catch your breath again!”

Obviously, we shouldn’t take everything that Oda says literally – he is naturally going to be excited by developments in his own manga, after all. However, enough hints are going around – from actors on the Netflix series to Toei’s quarterly financial reports – to make us believe that 2025 might be as big as Oda says.

A new One Piece movie is probably in production

While it didn’t get confirmed at Jump Fiesta, there are signs that a new One Piece theatrical movie is in the works. Toei Animation’s quarterly report cited that a new movie aimed at global audiences is in development for a 2025 release date. Considering that it has been almost three years since One Piece Film Red became one of the biggest anime movies of all time, we’re due another film starring the Straw Hats.

Confirmation that the Netflix live action One Piece season three is coming

We know that season two of the live action One Piece is coming this year, but the season won’t be tackling the full Alabasta Saga. Instead, it is only running up through the emotional Drum Island arc, which leaves half the story untold. Oda’s comments combined with what Vice Admiral Garp’s actor said at a convention last year suggest that a third season is already in the mix – we’re just waiting for Netflix to confirm it.

The One Piece remake from Netflix gets a release date

Speaking of Netflix, it has been just over a year since The One Piece was announced. This remake of the original anime would be produced by Studio Wit and streamed on Netflix. Since then we've had confirmation of some of the staff on the series but nothing that suggests its release is imminent. Toei's anime adaptation is coming back in April 2025, so Netflix might be trying to follow suit and air its first season at the end of 2025. Even if we don't see new episodes of The One Piece, we'd be surprised if we don't get a release window by the end of 2025.

The end of the One Piece manga could be coming

We’re deep into what Oda has called the Final Saga for the One Piece manga, but that doesn’t actually tell us how soon to expect the finale of Luffy’s adventures. While we don’t think that the final chapter of One Piece is coming in 2025, the wording of Oda’s announcement at Jump Fiesta 2025 suggests that a timeline for the end of One Piece could be coming this year.
