Marvel is very eager to right the MCU ship after 2023’s series of missteps at the box office. Not only are they bringing back the directors, star, and writer of Avengers: Endgame for the next two Avengers films, but they’re also planning a little reunion in the upcoming Vision TV show. Apparently, it isn’t just Paul Bettany and James Spader who are returning for the Disney+ series; Elizabeth Olsen is reportedly in serious talks to reprise her role as the Scarlet Witch in the show.
It comes in the same report from Deadline that confirmed Spader’s return to the role of Ultron, following the murderous AI’s apparently demise in Avengers: Age of Ultron. In that report, Deadline says, “While the focus is on Vision, we also heard there is a possibility for Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) to appear, which would make sense given how interconnected the two characters’ stories are in the MCU.”
There are two things to unpick here; first, this is far from a confirmation of Olsen’s return, either in fresh footage or stock footage from her years playing Wanda in the MCU. It also seems to hint that, if she does return, it probably won’t be in a large role in the Vision series. Which is reasonable, considering the last time we saw the character, she was buried under an ancient temple on top of a mountain.
In the limitless possibilities of the multiverse, however, is anyone really dead? And with the vast amounts of Disney money Marvel has at their disposal, no one’s return is truly off the table. If the rumors are true and we are getting at least one more glimpse at Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, maybe they’ll give her a more heroic ending than she got in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
